Can you develop Type 1 Diabetes or are you born with it?

I'm doing some research.
Can you develop Type 1 Diabetes?

Is it a genetic defect or can you develop it from something like poor diet, anemia, or some kind of deficiency. I know it is probably not from anemia but what kind of things can lead to you developing Type 1 Diabetes.

Type one is genetic but you are not "born with it." You are born with the genetic tendency to develop type one diabetes, but something triggers the immune response to attack your beta cells. Stress, illness, or even environmental factors are thought to cause the initial immune response, but the immediate cause is not known. It is not caused by poor diet or lifestyle choices. People develop type 1 at all ages, from infancy to adulthood, although most cases are diagnosed in children or teens.
