diabetes runs in my family, help!?

I just am wondering about a few things about diabetes since it runs in my family, and I want to know some warning signs. My question is, the main symptoms are extreme thirst, and frequent urination. Now, extreme thirst would be what, drinking water bottle after water bottle, or like a slight change in the amount of water you need? and is frequent urination caused by the more water intake? Just wondering so i know the warning signs, thanks!

I can tell you what happened when I was diagnosed with Diabetes:

My vision became very weak and blurry. I couldn't even see the license plate on the car in front of me. I had a very strong urge to urinate at least once every half hour. I couldn't hold it for very long either. Years before I was diagnosed, I would have nervous spells hours after eating a breakfast of pancakes (probably because my blood sugar would spike in the morning, then drop hours later). The day I went to the doctor, my blood sugar was over 200, and that was in the morning before eating anything.

Find a source for eating healthy now. My mother died of complications from her diabetes. Don't ever think that it "won't happen to me". The key is to keep your blood sugar from spiking all at once. Eat food high in fibre and good fats (not sure about the fats), this will keep your blood sugar from rising fast (spiking).
