Question about qualifications need to become a Certified Diabetes Educator?

Ok well I really would like to be a CDE. but I really don't want to be a nurse as well. I mean I would deal with it for the 2 years or whatever through medical school but after that I really wouldn't want to give people shots (other than the ones for insulin as I already do that) or like change a bed pan or something lol. Can you go right from getting your certification as a CDE to an office and be a CDE? Or do you have to be a nurse too? If your confused just let me know and I'll try to clear it up

Wow, you really have some misconceptions about the scope of practice of nurses. Nurses do not go to medical school but rather earn an ADN, BSN, MSN, PhD, or DNP, most of which are postgraduate level degrees. Also, nursing is not simply giving shots or changing bedpans. According to the American Nurses Association, "Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations." Please brush up on the roles and practices of nursing before making incorrect assumptions. Here's a good place to start:

As for becoming a CDE, you need to have a degree in a health profession such as nursing, nutrition, or pharmacy. You then gain experience and pass a "comprehensive examination that covers physiology, drug treatment, blood glucose testing, complications, mental health issues and more..." in order to be certified.
