What are some symptoms of having diabetes during pregnancy?
I'm about 32 wks preggo and I started late prenatal care. they are barely gonna check my glucose sugar level next week but I haven't been feeling to good, and I want to know about the symptoms.
I had Gestational Diabetes with my last pregnancy. It was a surprise pregnancy having conceived when I had been taking birth control pills for 11 years (our other kids were 18, 15, and 12 when she was born). I did not find out I was pregnant until I was 17 weeks along. I had no pregnancy symptoms, but I did have some stomach pain after I ate and I was losing weight. Unexplained weight loss can be a symptom of diabetes. However, I found out that Gestational Diabetes does not present with symptoms and that is why all pregnant women are screened for it. As with all Types Of Diabetes, if it is not being controlled, you can experience excessive thirst, greatly increased appetite, and frequent urination. But, these often accompany pregnancy without Gestational Diabetes. It has been 10 years since I had GD and I have recently been diagnosed with Glucose Intolerance, a form of pre-Diabetes. Women who have had GD are at a greater risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes so I am trying to follow a meal plan and exercise to delay the onset as long as possible. If I eat too many carbs, I get very sleepy, irritable, head-achy, and sick to my stomach. Again, all possible symptoms in pregnancy anyway.
