Fundamentals Of Diabetes Diet Recipes

Diabetic Diet Recipes are not any different than normal meal recipes. The only difference is that diabetic diet recipes are a little healthier than normal good diet recipes. They are not anymore special than a well planned meal with proper nutritional content. I would agree, however, that there are more restrictions and specific guidelines for diabetic diets as most of us would assume. But for the most part, it is a diet that most people who are health conscious should implement in their daily diet. Whether pre-diabetic or not, we all should think about such diet to avoid not just diabetes but all other health complications that we sure to run into if we are not careful of the things that we put in our bodies.

Your food choices must include the healthiest carbohydrates: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and low-fat dairy products. These foods are also fiber-enriched, which aid in digestion. Fiber is ideal for people with Type 2 Diabetes, can decrease the risk of heart diseases, and help control blood sugar levels. Around 25 to 30 grams of fiber should be taken daily.

It is best to serve vegetables when they are raw, such as vegetable salads. Use low-fat or fat-free dressing for your salad. You can also steam your veggies of you want them cooked. Avoid over-cooking the vegetables. For fruits, you can also create a salad so you have a variety of fruits on your plate.

In addition, avoid using saturated and trans fats in your diabetic diet recipes. Too much fat in the body can be dangerous; more so if a person has diabetes. Diabetes increases the risk of a person developing heart diseases and stroke. Your aim is to maintain a healthy level of good cholesterol in your body. Avoid using butter, margarine, and shortening in your cooking. Instead, try mono-unsaturated fats like olive oil; they are a healthier choice.

Meat is a good source of protein but remember to choose lean cuts. Give up the skin; it has high cholesterol. Fish is a better option over meat for it has less total fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol than meat or poultry. Fishes like salmon and mackerel are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which help promote a healthy heart. Aim for fish in your menu at least two times a week.

Contrary to what many people are saying, there is no special diet when it comes to people with diabetes. A diabetic diet recipe simply refers to a delicious but healthy menu, which the whole family can also enjoy.
